Influence of Syphilis Infection on Abortions in Iraq

Introduction: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease, that may be transferred from mothers to infants during pregnancy if it left untreated. Method: This study was conducted among 65 women who suffered recurrent abortions in Iraq. screening recombinant (IgM + IgG) level by ELISA, RADIM (Italy) and rapid plasma reagin (RPR) (positive negative results) tests were used analyse the data. Results: A non-significant association observed with age (p=0.989), number of healthy births (p=0.643). Non-significant differences comparisons between smoker non-smoker percentages group. The test for syphilis confirmation applied using Rapid Plasma Reagin tests. There significant elevation (IgG IgM) positive (p=0.027). had correlation (p=0.318 0.783 respectively). weak age. abortions, births, duration marriage. abortion percentage distribution showed high first trimester (75%) RPR patients 70.7% results test. second-trimester cases low than first-trimester cases. Conclusion: current concluded infection didn’t have influence on abortions.
